Self-trust

We hear about confidence all the time and it is met with a lot of ‘well of course’ more confidence would be great.

Yet, not a lot of people have been able to explain confidence to me or how we grow it. As I open the space for so many, the trust we have in ourselves and our surroundings (other people or situations) felt eroded.

I mean, if we go through life being wrong often, receiving feedback in a criticism format, the ‘you aren’t trying hard enough’ comment, you have so much potential, … . How are we suppose to trust others and our own abilities?

In 2020 when I really started to work with people. The issue rarely were their systems, their work-ethos or efforts. So many started to share how little they would trust something could work or how little they trust to complete something. No wonder coaches are trained not to give advice and to not prescribe any specific pre-assumed tools. We are all different and our upbringing has a huge impact on how we action and can experiment in the future.

In response, I tested this hypothesis out. What if all the coachees (clients) did in the coaching sessions, was to understand the barriers to action, making that action achievable but slightly uncomfortable, and building an experiment VS an action.

Hyla & I would use this technique in our course too. And YES it works.

Small actions, reflections of our achievements and next experiments committed to became the continuous process.

Anne-Laure Le Cunff speaks beautifully about experimentation and I am grateful. Because not only is her book a best seller, it has given me some more evidence that what I put into practise in the coaching space really does work.

It’s my ethos, other coaches have their own, but fundamentally after my 10 year diagnosis period, I feel like I have a few more years of proof.

If you feel like your self-trust is hard to find and you’d like to explore if this would be a suitable topic to explore in coaching. Please do reach out.
